This past weekend we had the chance to take a peek ourselves and see in person what's been going on. The kids didn't want to see pictures beforehand because they wanted to be surprised. They closed their eyes as we made the approach, and they walked along the gravel drive holding our hands keeping their eyes shut while shuffling along. When we lifted them up and put them inside, they oooohed and aaaahed for the big reveal (just like folks do on TV). They crack me up.
Raising the roof. From what I hear, this was the hardest day of all. Lots of work involving arms above heads and a cable that tightened more and more as each increasingly-difficult-to-fit beam was set in place. And drilling. Lots and lots of drilling and wrench turning. Looks like it's going to be sturdy.
Hubby's been taking time off work to work on it--he's the one who took all these pictures. I'm feeling a little left out of the process b/c the DIYer in me wants to be there soooo badly. Ah well, that is neither here nor there.
End of day two. Goodbye island, see ya tomorrow....
Yesterday was a big deal for us. We ordered our yurt about 8 weeks ago (which left us time to build the deck/platform), and yesterday was pick up day. Dave and our builder went to get it, since it was a two-truck load. It consisted of three sturdily built crates, and although we were a little concerned about how big a 30-foot yurt would be to transport, it turns out that everything was pretty compact. They got it on the ferry, drove it to the land and unloaded it all. Day one.
I love that we get to keep the empty crates. Future playhouse anyone? :)
